New ISO President Dr. Khaled Soufi Begins Tenure

1/20/2026

Dr. Khaled Soufi, chairman of the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality, began his three-year term as president of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on January 1, 2026.

In his inaugural message on ISO.org, Soufi reflected on the critical role of international standards as key enablers for accelerating innovation and sustainable development. “In these times of rapid transformation and rising uncertainty across the world, international standards matter more than ever” he emphasized. “They provide consistency in the face of change, authority in the face of doubt, and unity in the face of fragmentation.”

Soufi brings extensive expertise in international governance, standardization, and quality management, with leadership experience spanning international, regional, and national levels across public and private sectors. His notable positions include membership on the ISO Council and other governance groups, chair of the Egyptian Committee of Codex, and liaison officer at the United Nations Headquarters. He has also served on the boards of the Arab Institute for Standardization and Metrology (AIDSMO) and the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC). He was a council member of the African Regional Organization for Standardization (ARSO).
