Movers and Shakers highlights the career advancements and accomplishments of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community. In this issue:
The APA – The Engineered Wood Association recently welcomed Daniel Hovanec as its director of certification and quality services.
Most recently, Hovanec served as the certification director at PFS TECO, overseeing certification projects within the building products division. He played a key role in developing and managing product-standard and building-code-compliance inspection programs, spearheading laboratory testing projects and manufacturer qualifications, and communicating with end users on the proper use of certified products. He has also served as a panel products manager and technical services specialist.
At APA, Hovanec will direct APA certification programs and support APA’s third-party inspection and quality program.
“We are excited to welcome Dan to APA,” said APA president Mark Tibbetts. “His expertise in certification, inspection, and testing will be invaluable in maintaining APA’s position as a trusted leader in the industry.”
ASTM International has awarded Annemarie Appleton with its ASTM Founding Award, recognizing her outstanding leadership and exemplary contributions to ASTM Committee A01 in the development and promotion of voluntary consensus standards.
ASTM’s A01 committee focuses on steel, stainless steel, and related alloys. It was the first committee formed upon ASTM’s founding in 1898.
Throughout her career, Appleton has concentrated on quality system programs for materials manufacturers and suppliers in the areas of pressure piping, pressure vessel materials, and piping components.
In addition to her involvement with ASTM, Appleton is also a member the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Manufacturers Standardization Society (MSS), both of which are ANSI members. She has previously received the A01 Committee’s Award of Merit and Award of Appreciation.
