ANSI Introduces the ANSI AI Register

10/22/2026

Platform to improve transparency, trust, safety, and discovery across the AI and SI ecosystem

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) today is rolling out the ANSI AI Register, a new platform to improve transparency, increase visibility, and strengthen trust across the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence (AI) and super intelligence ecosystem.

AI is creating significant opportunities for innovation and economic growth, but buyers, regulators, and investors increasingly struggle to sort trusted information from the growing number of frameworks, assurance programs, and claims in the market. The ANSI AI Register will give organizations, government agencies, researchers, and other stakeholders a single place to find and understand AI-related standards, qualifications, assessments, certifications, attestations, declarations, and other trust-related information.

“As AI becomes part of how organizations operate and make decisions, the question is no longer whether to adopt it, but how to do so with confidence,” said Laurie E. Locascio, Ph.D., NAE, president and CEO of ANSI. “Organizations, governments, and consumers want to understand how AI systems, products, and services are developed, governed, and used. The ANSI AI Register is intended to be a trusted resource to support the responsible adoption and safe use of AI while fostering innovation and public trust.”

The Register will provide visibility into three kinds of evidence: first-party declarations, in which organizations describe their own governance, safety, security, and risk management practices; second-party attestations, such as customer evaluations and supplier or procurement assessments; and third-party assessments, certifications, audits, and verifications conducted by independent organizations.

Entries may cover AI developers, deployers, and service providers; standards and governance frameworks; professional qualifications and workforce programs; education and training resources; research and thought leadership; and safety, security, and risk management activities. ANSI will review applications against eligibility criteria to be published before launch. Listing in the Register does not constitute certification, accreditation, or endorsement by ANSI.

The Cyber Engagement Forum (CyberEF) will help develop the platform infrastructure and stakeholder engagement capabilities behind the Register, drawing on its experience building cybersecurity ecosystem and marketplace initiatives.

“Standards and conformity assessment have long given markets a way to trust products and services they cannot evaluate for themselves,” said R. Douglas Leonard Jr., chief of strategic initiatives for ANSI. “The AI Register applies that experience to AI. It is designed to show who is making a claim, what that claim rests on, and what it does and does not cover.”

The initiative reflects ANSI’s long-standing role in standards, conformity assessment, and trusted innovation, and a shared commitment to helping organizations manage the opportunities and risks that come with AI.
