A new international standards committee is being formed to develop standards for digital product passports: International Organization for Standardization (ISO) / International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Joint Technical Committee (JTC) 5, Digital product passport.
Digital Product Passports (DPPs), which share product information across the entire product lifecycle, can be used as a means to increase transparency and unlock circularity.
ISO/IEC JTC 5 operates under the following scope:
Standardization in the field of DPPs. Development of deliverables for the deployment of DPPs ensuring cross-sectoral and cross system interoperability, enabling the supply chain information flow. This includes the framework of the DPP system and the DPP ecosystem, as well as the basics for both. The new JTC does not develop sector-specific standards and standards to be used for DPP-system or DPP-data, which are already covered by the scope of other ISO and IEC Technical Committees.
The Secretariat has been assigned to Germany (DIN).
U.S. Participants: Get Involved!
ANSI invites interested stakeholders to get involved through the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO/IEC JTC 5. Organizations interested in serving as the U.S. TAG Administrator or participating on the U.S. TAG should contact ANSI’s ISO Team ([email protected]) by Friday, March 20, 2026, at 5:00 pm EDT.
