The certification community is navigating two major shifts: the rise of skills-based hiring and the responsible use of AI in operations. ANSI-affiliate Workcred and credentialing organization CompTIA’s latest blog explores how organizations are handling the changes.

For some certification bodies, the shift to skills-based hiring validates existing practices, as fields including financial planning have long used skills-based frameworks. Other organizations are updating their messaging and partnering with AI-powered platforms to manage data. Some are seeing mixed results.

As CompTIA's senior vice president of exam services Carl Bowman noted, certifications have always been designed to measure job competence, encompassing both knowledge and skills. New certification offerings reflect this, spanning multiple disciplines while adhering to global quality standard for organizations, ISO/IEC 17024:2026.
