ANSI and the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) join organizations worldwide in marking World Accreditation Day on June 9, an annual initiative of the Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated (Global ACI) – formed by the merger of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) – to highlight accreditation’s role in the global economy.
This year's theme, “Innovation, Trust, and Sustainability: The Power of Accreditation,” underscores how accreditation supports safety, reliability, and global confidence.
To celebrate World Accreditation Day 2026, ANAB has published a blog series exploring the three components of this year's theme:
The products, services, systems, laboratories, and credentialed professionals people rely on all depend on an unseen infrastructure of activities such as testing, inspection, certification, and validation and verification. Accreditation gives that structure credibility. ANAB accredits the organizations that perform these activities, independently confirming their competence and impartiality. That assurance enables innovation to reach scale, gives markets the confidence to function, and establishes the trust that connects organizations, regulators, and consumers. And behind that work are the people who carry it out.
“Even as technology transforms conformity assessment, the people doing this work remain its most important asset,” said Doug Leonard, ANAB executive director. “AI and automation can support processes, but the judgment, expertise, and accountability that make accreditation meaningful are human.”
